7 Day Highlights of Zambia [Friday, August 27, 2010]

Day 1
As you will be entering Zambia, a single entry visa will be required and is obtainable at the point of entry at a cost of USD50.00 per person, payable in cash. The visa fee is subject to change at the discretion of the Zambian Government. On arrival at Livingstone Airport a Sussi & Chuma representative will meet and transfer you to the lodge. The transfer time is approximately 20 minutes.

Sussi & Chuma is named after David Livingstone’s faithful companions and consist of an intimate lodge and two exclusive houses, both of which are situated to make the most of the amazing views that the sweeping Zambezi River provides.

Activities offered at the lodge include, game drives in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, where guests can see a variety of game, including white rhino, elephant, buffalo and giraffe. A walking tour of the incredible Victoria Falls, a World Heritage Site, is a must as guests have the opportunity to experience one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. On offer is a local cultural village tour of the local Simonga village, where a number of the staff from Sussi & Chuma is employed from. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the activities on offer. Day 2
The day is at leisure to enjoy the activities on offer, enjoy a sundowner cruise on the Mighty Zambezi River and watch an African sunset. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Day 3
Please meet the lodge representative in the reception area of the lodge for your transfer to
Livingstone Airport. Depart Livingstone on a pro flight scheduled light aircraft charter flight via Lusaka to Mfuwe Airport. The flying time is approximately 1 hour to Lusaka, disembark and re check in for onward flight to Mfuwe. Lusaka to Mfuwe is a 1 hour flight. On arrival at the airport a Puku Ridge Camp representative will transfer you to the camp. The transfer time is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and most of it through the South Luangwa National park. A full range of day and night game drives in the South Luangwa National Park are offered by the camp, using open 4X4 vehicles driven by knowledgeable guides. The emphasis in this area is on the wonderful opportunities of walking safaris with a professional guide and an armed national parks scout. Walking safaris offer a different perspective on the bush and its plentiful inhabitants, experiencing the “little five”. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the game viewing activity on offer. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Day 5
After breakfast a camp representative will transfer you to the airport. The transfer time will be advised to you locally. Depart Mfuwe on Proflight on a shared light aircraft charter flight to Kulefu airstrip, in the Lower Zambezi. The flying time is approximately 1 hour 40 minutes. Kindly note, that all inter-camp flights are subject to multiple pick up and drop offs en-route to your destination which would affect the flying time.

On arrival at the airstrip a camp representative will transfer you to the camp. A short walk down the bank to the boat. The transfer time is approximately 20 minutes by boat to the camp. Deep in the game-rich Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambezi Kulefu camp is a secluded, intimate safari camp settled comfortably in the shade of tall riverine trees. Profoundly peaceful, eco-friendly and well appointed, the camp overlooks one of the permanent channels of the legendary Zambezi River.

Enjoy the beautiful riverbank setting at Kulefu ‘the faraway place’, which offers excellent game viewing opportunities, as the wildlife is concentrated in the land corridor between the steep escarpment and the river. The location is enhanced by a swimming pool right on the river bank as well as a teak deck overlooking the river. An evening campfire forms an integral part of the camp where guests can sit and discuss the events and sightings of the day. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the game viewing activities on offer. Overnight – Zambezi Kulefu Camp

Day 6
The day is at leisure to enjoy the game viewing activities on offer. For the more adventuress take a breathtaking trip down one of the many channels on a canoe, viewing game from the waters edge. Try out your hand on some tiger fishing, done on a catch and release basis. Try beating our 12 pound (5,5kg) record! Enjoy a sundowner cruise on the camp private boats on one of the many channels of the Zambezi River. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Overnight – Zambezi Kulefu Camp

Day 7
Time permitting the morning is at leisure to enjoy the game viewing activities on offer. After breakfast a camp representative will transfer you to the airstrip. The transfer time will be advised to you locally. Depart Kulefu on a proflight shared light aircraft charter flight to Lusaka Airport. The flying time is approximately 40 minutes. Kindly note, that all inter-camp flights are subject to multiple pick up and drop offs en-route to your destination which would affect the flying time. Depart Lusaka on a scheduled flight for onward journey. (Breakfast)

Day 1 Tshipise Forever Resort Musina, South Africa 12 Oct 2010
An early departure from Johannesburg. Your guide will pick you up at your hotel, lodge or backpackers in Johannesburg at 6 am. The Roadtrip continues north into the Limpopo Province where we will set up camp in a beautiful bush setting dotted with ancient Baobab trees near the Zimbabwe border.

Day 2 Lake Chivero Recreational Park, Zimbabwe 13 Oct 2010
After breakfast we pack up and head for the Zimbabwe border at Beit Bridge. Our destination is the Lake Chivero Recreational Park where we will camp under the stars. A variety of wildlife can be seen in this area including; White Rhino, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Impala and the rare Sable Antelope and Pangolin.

Day 3 Blantyre, Malawi 14 Oct 2010
Today we drive north east through Zimbabwe and crossing into Mozambique. We will cross the mighty Zambezi River in Mozambique before we reach the Malawi Border. We spend the night camping in Malawi’s biggest city, Blantyre.

Day 4 – 7 Lake of Stars Music Festival, Malawi 15 – 18 Oct 2010
An early start and we have the morning in Blantyre to stock up on essentials before we leave for the Lake of Stars Music Festival on the shores of Lake Malawi. This is what we have all been waiting for. The festival, the lake, the beach, the music, the DJ’s & bands, and the magical atmosphere, all under African skies – what more can you ask for. With an exciting mixture of African and international artists this is bound to be an event that will stay with you forever.

After breakfast we head south again towards the Mozambican border. We camp under the stars on the banks of the Zambezi River in the vibrant city of Tete, Mozambique.

Day 9 & 10 Vilanculos, Mozambique 20 Oct 2010
An early morning start as this is the longest driving day of our Roadtrip. We cross the Zambezi River and make our way towards Mozambique’s spectacular 3000 kilometre tropical coastline. We reach the bustling village of Vilanculos in the late afternoon. Vilanculos is a tropical paradise overlooking the Bazaruto Archipelago with its breathtaking tropical islands, coral reefs and diverse marine life. Vilanculos has a variety of bars, restaurants and colourful markets to explore. We spend 2 nights here camping at a lodge on the beach. In Vilanculos you can take a highly recommended island Dhow sailing safari to one of the nearby islands. On the Dhow day trip you have the chance of spotting dolphins, the endangered Dugong, snorkelling the reefs of Bazaruto and have a traditional seafood lunch prepared on an open fire, Mozambican style.

Day 11 & 12 Tofo, Mozambique 21 Oct 2010
Today we have a short drive to Tofo beach village near Inhambane. We spend two nights in Tofo. In Tofo you can snorkel with Whale Sharks & Manta Rays, dive the world famous Manta Reef, do some horse riding, try your luck at surfing, enjoy the nightlife or just laze on the beach.

Day 13 Maputo, Mozambique 22 Oct 2010
After breakfast we make our way further down the coast reaching the vibrant capital city of Mozambique, Maputo, in the afternoon. This bustling city has an impressive skyline and boasts a unique combination of Portuguese and African cultures. In the evening we’ll enjoy the epic nightlife of Maputo, African style.

Day 14 Johannesburg, South Africa 23 Oct 2010
Today we undertake our final transit back to Johannesburg. We cross the border into South Africa’s beautiful Mpumalanga Province near the Kruger National Park. We reach Johannesburg in the late afternoon where we end a truly unforgettable journey.
