Andrew Modinos Joins TSI Central Station [Thursday, June 02, 2011]

In a move that has taken the shipping and logistics industries by storm, former Mediterranean Shipping Company Gauteng regional director, Andrew Modinos, has changed course and joined logistics management company TSI Central Station.

After 20 good years with MSC, Modinos was up for a new challenge – presented by the 4 Party Logistics service provider which has built a solid reputation since its launch five years ago.

By his own admission Modinos had become an integral part of the MSC family and cutting the ties demanded an exceptional opportunity.

TSI presented just that.

“I always found the landside operations an exciting part of the entire logistics solution,” Modinos told FTW. “It’s where you can really make a difference and find innovative ways to improve efficiency and ultimately the customer’s bottom line.”

This was the motivation for the launch of TSI.

Through basic inefficiencies, companies were wasting huge sums of money on storage and demurrage. What TSI came up with was an IT system that established how to reduce the wastage through simple interventions. “What makes it so effective is that it’s a customer-driven system focusing on imports and exports throughout South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa,” says Modinos.

“Our customers can focus on their core business while leading edge technology helps to reduce their costs, managing either the customer’s service provider or our specially selected service providers,” Modinos explained.

“We ensure that importers are not paying storage and demurrage due to late clearances or collections. The TSI system monitors the port and the haulier.

“For exports, we manage and monitor until the ship has left the port

The company’s growing client base includes logistics providers as well as larger cargo owners. In some cases, TSI ‘implants’ operate from the customer offices.

Currently based in Johannesburg and Durban and employing a staff of 50 people, growth and expansion is on the agenda as TSI sets sail with a new captain to steer its course.
