Description about Sugar and Spice Nanny Training

Sugar & Spice Nanny Training offers a range of child care courses for domestic workers employed in family homes. Our primary focus is on empowering nannies with all the essential knowledge, practical skills and real confidence they need to take care of and stimulate the babies and young children they love and are responsible for, both at work and in their communities.


Course content includes First Aid, Safety and the childproof home, Routines and Time management, Communicating with parents, Hygiene, Nutrition, Games and Activities.

On completion of the course, delegates receive 2 certificates, the Sugar and Spice Nanny Training Certificate and a First Aid Certificate, which is accredited with the resuscitation council of South Africa.  


Established in 2003, we have trained more than 1000 ladies & are recommended by mothers, nannies and placement agencies.

We offer nanny training in Cape Town and Johannesburg and also offer cooking, housekeeping and play workshops.

Domestic Worker Childminding (Nanny) Course [Sunday, July 12, 2009]

The Sugar & Spice Nanny Training Course gives your domestic worker all the essential knowledge, skills and confidence she needs to take care of your young child, from birth to 3+.

Established in 2003, our course is the only Nanny Training Course fully and exclusively endorsed by Baby Sense, guaranteeing that we are teaching up to date thinking and well tried and proven principles. Mums can relax in the knowledge that their children are in confident, capable and loving hands while they are away from home.

Based on the principal of "Whole Child Development" we teach with these key elements in mind: - Intellectual, Emotional, Social and Physical wellbeing. Running over 4 weeks (3 hours, once a week) the content includes the following:

Routines and time management
Essential First Aid, including CPR and Mouth to Mouth
Childproofing your home and safety indoors and outdoors
Hygiene Avoiding the transmission of HIV and TB
Nutrition and Menu Planning
Understanding the importance of play
Developmental Milestones
Age appropriate games and activities
Learning through Reading and Music

Nanny Courses are offered in the Greater Cape Town area, Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Sugar and Spice Nanny Training Kids play Nanny Course [Sunday, July 12, 2009]

Our Kids play workshops are fun filled, hands on sessions teaching a range of creative ideas for games to play with young children aged 18 months upwards, using “common house hold” goodies from margarine tubs, to toilet rolls, hose pipes to wooden planks.

We offer two themes during the year – Summer Kids play and Winter Kids Play.   Our summer Kids play workshop focuses on outdoor activities while the winter Kids play workshop focuses on arts and creative play.

We also demonstrate how to get the most out of a few old favourites such as lego and building blocks.

The workshop is run from a family home, thus making it possible to make much of the learning practical.

Running for one 3 ½ hour session the workshop costs R450.00 for "new nannies" and R350.00 for nannies who have attended our Sugar & Spice Nanny course. We will also bring the course to you for a group of 4 or more.

Domestic Worker Cooking Course [Sunday, July 12, 2009]

The Sugar and Spice cooking course teaches nannies how to prepare food that is easy, nutritious and delicious ensuring that your little ones will get their "5 a day!"

We offer two courses - one teaching nannies how to prepare first foods and the other teaching them how to prepare family favourites.

Home cooked baby foods - Presented by Janis Moss of Nice Touch cooking school, our home cooked baby foods course teaches how to prepare delicious weaning foods for babies aged 6 – 12 months.

Course content also includes hygiene in the kitchen and how and when to introduce solids. Running over 2 morning sessions 09:00 – 12:00 the course costs R600.00.

Cooking for kiddies – Presented by Janis Moss of Nice Touch cooking school, our cooking for kiddies teaches nannies how to prepare some family favourites.

Running over 4 sessions (one morning a week for 4 weeks) the course costs R1100.00 and content includes
Week one: Mighty mince – basic bolognaise, lasagne, cottage pie and meat balls
Week two: Funky Fish – crumbed, pie and baked
Week three: Cheeky Chicken – Oven stew, stir fry and pasta
Week four Perfect partners – plain rice, stir fry rice, potato bake, chips, baked potatoes, mash, roast veggies veggie soup
